As I watched third-round coverage of the British Open, I marveled not at the diversity of swing types nor the field, but most of all, at the shoes the competitors wore. Despite golf’s traditional look of a wingtip golf shoe, fashion trends move toward a rounded, comfortable toe and a softer overall feel. The Nike Lunar Swingtip embodies this inclination.

The Lunar Swingtip resembles a walkabout shoe that some refer to as a skater shoe.

Whichever nomenclature you select is irrelevant: as long as you like the feel and look, call it what you like! I find that the extra eyelets at the top of the lacing structure offer more security through the upper ankle than anticipated.

The sole of the LS (Lunar Swingtip) is populated by a series of color-coordinated rubber nubs. The sizing and placement no doubt contribute to the comfortable feel. I’ve walked 18 in these with complete comfort. I’ve also done the grocery shopping and run the day’s errands in them, forgetting that I’m wearing golf shoes.

Jay Gatsby would look great in these!

My one suggestion is: size up. When I wear a more traditional Nike shoe, my 9.5 is consistent across the board. I have a pair of the Lunar Swingtips and the Lunar Ascend. Both are comfortable enough to wear beyond the locker room and the parking lot. However, and this is a big however for me, my toes are slightly cramped in my 9.5s. I recommend sizing up a half-size if you order online; if you purchase from your local pro shop or golf store, try the slightly lengthier option.
