First the lead at The Masters, then his golf swing, then his putting stroke, now his golf clubs?

A long few days for Rory McIlroy became even longer when he arrived in Malaysia for the Malaysia Open only to learn that his clubs had been lost in the trip.

“It’s one of these things – you can’t help it, going through so many timezones and so many connecting flights, your bags are going to get lost sometimes,” McIlroy told reporters. “Hopefully they turn up tonight and I’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”

The loss of his clubs probably stings infinitely less than his struggles at last weekend’s Masters. Still, you have to be impressed with how McIlroy has handled the entire situation. Walking off the 18th green after his collapse he still took a second to hand a ball to a young spectator. He didn’t decline an interview immediately following the round. He also talked honestly and openly about learning from the collapse and moving on. He even tweeted this picture.

Last year, McIlroy carded a 63 in the first round of the British Open before shooting 80 in the second round. This year he took the lead three-and-a-half rounds. It’s only a matter of time before he gets it all together for four days.

There are multiple major championships in McIlroy’s future…if his clubs ever show up.
