UPDATE: Today was my day in the true fantasy sense. The picks I made last night went 12-4 for me. I’ve had this skill since my youth-money riding? Forget it. No money? Win all day long. Kaymer, Mahan and Watney were my final 3 proper selections. On to round 4!

UPDATE:  Moore sends Choi away, 5 & 3. Ogilvy scrapes by Bjorn.  9-4 on the day for me.
UPDATE:  M&M beats Schwartzel, Kuchar bumps Bo, Watson dumps Wilson, Jimenez zips Palmer and Holmes takes down Els. 7-4 for day two.
UPDATE:  Paul Casey upset…second championship contender from 2010 is gone. New finalists in 2011 ensured.  Dawn of Day? Oh, and Fowler had “it” versus Mickelson. Two losses in a row for me.  5-2
UPDATE:  First three picks of Round Two have gone my way, thanks to G-Mac, Yang and Crane (or should I thank Rory?)

Round one is in the books, so I’ll take a split look at round two of the WGC Match Play championship. The first take will follow my original picks (explained below) while the second will be an assessment of the actual first-round winners and the ones I think will make it to round three.

I entered the GolfWeek match play challenge and went 17-15 in the first round. Of those 17 winners (Choi, Manassero, Schwartzel, Moore, Kaymer, Rose, McIlroy, Palmer, Jimenez, Kuchar, McDowell, Fisher, Yang, Ogilvy, Wilson, Casey, Holmes) I have Moore, Manassero, Kaymer, McIlroy, Palmer, Kuchar, Ogilvy, Wilson and Casey moving on to round three.  That’s not bad…9 of 17 that still have a shot. I’ll update this section as I did the first post yesterday, coloring and highlighting my winners and crossing out my losers.

My second take makes the following selections from the actual survivors of round one. Using the cloudiest crystal ball known to the other world, I hereby select…
Jones Bracket
Westwood v. Watney……………………………………Watney (won his first round match by 5 & 4-’nuff said)
Choi v. Moore……………………………………Moore (King of match play as an amateur)
Manassero v. Schwartzel……………………………………Schwartzel (tough call…not much to go on for either)
Donald v. E. Molinari………………………….Donald (tempted to call the upset, but Donald was solid yesterday)
Hogan Bracket
Mickelson v. Fowler……………………………………Mickelson (still not convinced that Fowler has “it.”)
Kuchar v. Van Pelt……………………………………Kuchar (he won a US Amateur, so he gets match play)
McDowell v. Fisher……………………………………McDowell (dude is on a run, all there is to say)
Cink v. Yang……………………………………Got a Coin? All right, Yang. (Why? Because my daughter says so!)
Player Bracket
Kaymer v. Rose……………………………………Kaymer (Rose survived Johnson, but he won’t survive this round)
Karlsson v. Mahan……………………………………Mahan (same reason as Watney…smoking hot in round one)
McIlroy v. Crane……………………………………Crane (why the upset? Crane plays so slow he’ll freak Rory out)
Palmer v. Jimenez……………………………………Jimenez (can’t pick against the Mechanic, the Spafro, the Ceeeeeeeegar)

Snead Bracket
Bjorn v. Ogilvy……………………………………Ogilvy (and reality hits as Bjorn come crashing back to earth)
Wilson v. Watson……………………………………Wilson (I think that he’ll find a way to stay so focused vs. the Whopper)
Casey v. Day……………………………………Casey (I love J-Day, but Casey knows the course & has gas in the tank)
Els v. Holmes………………………………….Holmes (Els is good to be upset every year; it happens vs. #66)
