Chipping Thoughts
Tom Tucker is a World Golf Teachers and United States Golf Teacher Federation-certified golf instructor. He may be contacted via his website or at the Plum Creek driving range in Batavia, NY.
I just saw a tip on chipping that inspired me to reinforce my views on chipping to my readers. My chipping method may be a little non-traditional, but it works very well.
The video tip I saw was one with a young assistant pro demonstrating a “ladder drill” with his chipping stroke. First thing I want to say is that this kid had good intentions, he was simply parrotting a drill that he had been taught and was passing it along. The problem is that very few of these kids have the temerity to question anything they’re taught, they just pass it along.

Birdie & Bogies In Bavaria~Saginaw, Michigan
“Am I in a holodeck on Star Trek’s Voyager?” - because suddenly I had been transported into the quaint Bavarian-style tourist town of Frankenmuth which could very well have been transplanted from the German Alps. Frankenmuth, “Michigan’s Little Bavaria,” is billed as Michigan’s number one tourist destination hosting over 3 million visitors each year. It hosts several festivals throughout the year and is known the world over for their fabulous chicken dinners.

Wacky Week In Golf
If you were to ask the average person to give a short description of golf, I’m sure they might say things like country club, sedate, slow, boring, difficult, time consuming or any number of other similar phrases. What I’m guessing you would probably not hear are rules controversy, doping scandal or gambling problem. Yet recently all three of these issues have cropped up in the serene, gentlemanly world of amateur and professional golf.

Are You Ready For? ~ The Players Championship
Just about the only photo I’ve seen gain traction this week is the one with the disappearing bridge. It shows the effect that days of rain can have on the island-green 17th at TPC Sawgrass, home to the unofficial 5th men’s major, the Players Championship. 5 inches of rain fell during a 36-hour period, inundating the course and raising the levels of Pete’s Pond (does it have a name?) that abuts the 16th fairway and putting surface and completely surround the 17th green.

Positive Self Talk
Tom Tucker is a World Golf Teachers and United States Golf Teacher Federation-certified golf instructor. He may be contacted via his website or at the Plum Creek driving range in Batavia, NY.
Every golfer carries on some sort of internal dialogue when they play, and the best players say the best things to themselves.
Absolutely nothing is gained by saying to yourself (or even worse – out loud) “you idiot, how can you hit it there” or “how can you leave that putt short” or “how can you blow that putt by the hole”.

Belly Putting
For anyone who has ever seen me putt, you would probably agree that my putting is inconsistent at best. I usually run the gamut from days when my putting is mediocre to days when it is downright ugly. If American Idol had a reality show where amateurs compete to be the best putter in the country, I would be William Hung (She Bangs! She Bangs!). To say my frustration level was high would be like saying that LeBron James can play a little basketball.
