Some quick thoughts after the first day of match play in Arizona.

~ Geoff Ogilvy is good at match play. He has a real chance to win this event for the third time. He made nice work of Padraig Harrington today 4and3.

~ Tiger is still a long way from back and maybe he’ll never be back. Thomas Bjorn gifted him the 18th by hitting it in the bunker. Woods had all the momentum and hit his tee shot on the first extra hole over by the rattlers. Not a good sign. But, as I’ve said all along — if he wins Augusta — the struggles all become a bit irrelevant.

~ All that working out must have helped Ben Crane as he downed Adam Scott. Fitness first.

~ It was a bit unfair for Poulter, the reigning champ to draw Cink so early. That could have been a championship match. A great effort by both golfers but Poulter ends up heading home.

~ I may just have to accept that Graeme McDowell is for real soon. I still have a few doubts.

~ Ross Fisher, my pick to win this event last year who exited in the first round, took home a nice win over Robert Allenby. A year late — but great effort Ross.

~ The losers from today’s event made $45,000. That’s not bad for getting your clocks cleaned for 13 holes, is it Brendan Jones?

~ Can we just fast forward to Mickelson vs. Fowler?
