Golf fans at Congressional Country Club won\u2019t be chanting that name during this June\u2019s U.S. Open unless Sergio Garcia can get his game and world ranking in shape over the next few weeks. Garcia is currently ranked 72 and needs to get in to the top 50 to earn an exemption. Garcia has yet to decide if he\u2019ll try to qualify should he fail to earn an exemption.<\/p>\n
\u201cFour good weeks, get into the U.S. Open and move on from there,\u201d Garcia said of the situation.<\/p>\n

Should Garcia miss the U.S. Open it will be the first time he\u2019s failed to play in a major championship should the 1999 U.S. Open. While Garcia\u2019s rankings have slipped over the past two years, he\u2019s still one of the most popular and recognizable names on tour<\/p>\n
Garcia is clearly trying to earn a spot as he skipped a European PGA Tour event in his home country at a club he\u2019s a member of this week to play in Charlotte, where there are more ranking points at stake. He opened today with a -3 to put himself in solid position after day one.<\/p>\n
As an admitted Sergio fan, I\u2019m hoping the mantra of \u201cfour good weeks, get into the U.S. Open\u2026\u201d rings true.<\/p>\n
