A round that begins with birdies, ends with birdies, and has little wrong in the middle, ends in success more often than not. That was the case for Lois Kaye Go<\/a><\/strong> of Cebu City, the Phillipines, on Friday at the Women’s Porter Cup. Go began the third round in third place, behind leaders Lauren Waller<\/a><\/strong> (Canonsburg, PA) and Naomi Ko<\/strong><\/a> (Victoria, BC, Canada.) While Waller (72) and Ko (74) would hover around par for the day’s round, Go found lightning in a bottle and put together a round for time immemorial.<\/p>\n

Ko struggled early and often, with bogeys at her first two holes in round three. Things then got weird, as she went on a birdie-double bogey-birdie run. The Team Canada member had four birdies on the day, but they were offset by far too many stumbles. Ko finished in 3rd place, at 1-under par 215.<\/p>\n

Waller’s third round was equally unique. Each time the Penn State junior made bogey, she responded with birdie. This happened three times on Friday, leading to a score of 72. Her total of -3 213 moved her two shots clear of co-overnight leader Ko. Unfortunately for both, Lois Kaye Go caught fire on the final day.<\/p>\n

As Naomi Ko was making bogeys to begin her day, Go came out of the gate in furious fashion. She birdied three of the first five holes to erase her deficit and make the day a three-golfer race. A hickup came at the difficult ninth, where she made her only bogey of the day. Go retrieved that shot at the 11th, with her 4th birdie of the day, then put a lid on the trophy case with a 4-birdie run, beginning at the 14th. The end result was a 7-under 65, the low round of the week, for 8-under 208 and a five-stroke victory over Waller.<\/p>\n
