I&#8217;ll be on the cusp of 70 years of age, Hopefully, I&#8217;ll still have a lawn. Hopefully, I&#8217;ll not wear birks and long socks. Hopefully, the neighborhood kids will be welcome on my lawn. Hopefully, I&#8217;ll be teaching them the Thai Spinner on my lawn. I have a few predictions, and with that term, I mean <em>things that we might see at the Augusta National<\/em>. I invite you to share your predictions in the comments section. I&#8217;ll green-light any and all that are not vulgar, insulting, nor inappropriate. I&#8217;ll leave you with the words of club chairman Fred Ridley: <em>&#8220;A few years ago we had Dude Perfect play frisbee at Amen Corner. In retrospect &#8230; [laughs] &#8230; I like those guys &#8230; but that may not have been the best decision.&#8221;<\/em> Not every decision is an eternal one, but some change sooner than others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prediction #1: Replacements for the honorary starters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Arnie passed, they brought in Kansas City Tom Watson to round out the trio. I hope that Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus are still pegging the ball in nine-years time, and I expect that Tom will be there. Should any or all of them opt out, for reasons kept between us, I nominate the following squadron of successors, by name:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For Jack Nicklaus, I nominate Gentle Ben Crenshaw;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Gary Player, I nominate Bernhard Langer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Tom Watson, I nominate Fred Couples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond those three, I&#8217;m going to go boldly and suggest a successor to current chairman Fred Ridley. Personally, I believe that Mr. Ridley will serve for as long as he is able. Should he decide to step away from his duties, I believe that everyone&#8217;s favorite playing partner, Jefferson Knox, will assume the mantle of chairman? Why? It&#8217;s like throwing darts at midnight, with no stars nor moon to guide you. The membership list is not for public consumption. I&#8217;d like to see Annika Sorenstam serve as well, so she would be a terrific candidate 1A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prediction #2: The Par-Three Contest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I anticipate that the par-three contest will support two waves of players in the coming years. The morning wave will be a competitive one, in which contestants will play for score, and the alleged par-three curse will come to an end. The afternoon wave will see the fun, picnicky affair that has come to the fore in recent years. Children, relatives, and the occasional celebrity will traipse across the pondisde course, offering the contestants a fun frolick before the hard work and concentration begin on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prediction #3: The Augusta National Women&#8217;s Amateur<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many have wondered aloud why the contestants are restricted to one round at the home club. So many potential explanations  flow across my cerebrum! I&#8217;ll offer three explanations, then conclude with a prediction. First, the committee wants the event to differ from The Masters. Next, not all LPGA and LET golfers will have played in the ANWA, so a three-round event at the wondrous Jones-MacKenzie course would be seen as an affront to the professionals. Third, although the need for a Friday practice round would be eliminated, a third round over the course would still cause more patron and competitor traffic, a week before The Masters. As for my prediction, I believe that we will see an identical schedule in nine-years time. Augusta National is all about its traditions, and it would not want the first seven champions to be contrasted with a venue-change event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prediction #4: The Golf Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe that the practice putting green behind holes 1 and 10 will undergo relocation, or championship tee\/tees will be built adjacent for the 1st and 10th holes. If the ball or other equipment undergoes a roll-back, scratch this notion. If there is no adjustment to equipment (by the ruling bodies or by the tournament itself) further stretching of yardage will continue. Other likely candidates (as they have space behind their current tee decks) are the 3rd or the 8th (but not both), the 5th (despite recent lengthening, it has a bit more room behind), and the 9th, on the first nine.
