Three Buffalo-Niagara golfers and four more Rochester golfers found themselves in position to advance to the championship round of match play of the 2016 International Junior Masters. David Hanes (Elma-71), Mike Wells (Getzville-74) and Jacob Mertz (Williamsville-74) were joined by Danny Gianniny (Rochester-71), Evan Gaesser (Kendall-71), Jeremy Summerson (Victor-73) and Colin Dubnik (Rochester-73) among the top 17 golfers through 18 of 36 qualifying holes. The entire field will return to the East Aurora country club course beginning at 7 am tomorrow. Play will be from the 1st and 10th tees, to ensure that the first round of match play will be competed in the afternoon.

Via Twitter, Jacob Merz had this to say about the playability of the golf course today: The course was playing soft yet fast. It was perfect for anyone who wanted to shoot low even if there were some higher scores.

Other locals with name recognition include 2015 NYSGA junior champion Ben Reichert (75) of East Amherst, and five-time NYSPHSAA qualifier and 2014 IJM semifinalist Nolan Ditcher (77) of Randolph.
