In the blink of nine holes, Jake Katz went from -2 and top ten to +1 and T95 at US Amateur qualifying. Katz was unable to make a single birdie on his inward nine, to offset three bogies. He currently sits at +1 after playing the easier of the two qualifying courses. With Erin Hills playing three strokes more difficult (74.967 vs. 71.975) than Blue Mound, Katz will need to get to -1 or -2 overall, on a tougher course, to have a hope of making the top 64 and match play.
