After spending day two with each other, western New York’s duo of Chris Covelli and Jonathan Clark will split up for day four of the South Beach International Amateur. Covelli turned in a 77 for a 50th place tie at 226 (+14). Clark went one stroke higher with 78 and will tee off two groups ahead of Covelli, at 8:34.
The battle for the championship remained strong as midway leader Kelly Kraft went round in 69 strokes, to move to -5 and preserve a one-stroke lead over France’s Gary Stal. Stal also signed for 69 and is paced by two countrymen. Clement Sordet tied for low round of the day with 68, moved to -2 and is three shots off the pace with Kenny Subregis (70, -2).
The final threesome of Kraft, Sordet and Stal goes off at 11:24. Keep an eye on Jonathan Fly of Memphis. Fly also posted 68 and, while not a threat to win the title, could make a big move into the top ten with another top-notch round.
