Tom’s Bonus Tip:
Putting Expectations – Keep It real

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties …. well, you know what to do!

From time to time we all need a reality check on our expectations for holing putts.

We watch the weekend tournament and hear that the winner has holed 13 out of 15 from 8 to 10 feet, and all of a sudden we start comparing ourselves to the best in the world.

The reality is that the best in the world average 50% putts holed from 8 feet, and of course the percentages go down as the putts get longer.

I’m not saying don’t try to make every putt. I truly expect to make every putt that I take, but I don’t fall on my sword for missing a putt – even a short one.

The best in the world make a lot of putts, but they miss a lot too.

Just focus on getting the ball started on line with the correct speed as mentioned in our main tip, and your confidence will grow – which just might be the best thing for your putting.

I tell every person who takes my putting lesson to think of themseves as being a great putter, because if you don’t think that way you’ll never be that way.

Love your practice, enjoy your golf,

Tom
