Weird Equipment Failure

First a broken hickory shaft, now this...

Earlier this season, I was out for my first hickory round with The Scrambler, using a borrowed set of clubs. On the second or third hole, I went down after a 4-iron, or mashie, if you prefer. I must have supponated my wrist and created some serious lag, because that …

Apparel Update: Fila Tahoe Long Sleeve

Mornings and evenings in summer, or any time during spring or fall, are perfect occasions for a long-sleeved golf shirt. The proper and appropriate question is, which type? Traditional predominantly-cotton shirts have given way to blended tops that breathe, keeping you warm or cool, depending on the situation. A fine example of this 2010-style shirt …

Rocky Mountain High! Kamloops, BC Canada

Sun_Peaks_-_Hole__4_Low_rez

When I say high I mean 4,000 feet above sea level high and still climbing!   Perched atop a downhill 145 yard par 3 at Sun Peaks with a daunting wooded river valley below and panoramic views of an alpine wonderland in the background my playing partner Wayne commented that “wouldn’t a hole-in-one now make a …

Apparel Update: Nike Lunar Ascend

I’ve written in other posts about the expanding pathway toward comfortable, sneakerish golf shoes. Golf is a battle against the self and the elements; why should its combatants be stuck wearing uncomfortable wingtips that remind us of uncomfortable places? I’m all for the options available today. The Nike Lunar Ascend presents an athletic appearance and …

Apparel Update: Linksoul

Link...

I’m a bit wary when a dude or a lass, having made a killing in apparel in another lifetime and style-era, makes an eerie comeback. Touting a new, fashion-younger direction, the results can be forgettable, even disastrous. Apparently, John Ashworth didn’t tack this course with Linksoul.

Apparel Update: Nike Lunar Swingtip

Nike Lunar Swingtip

As I watched third-round coverage of the British Open, I marveled not at the diversity of swing types nor the field, but most of all, at the shoes the competitors wore. Despite golf’s traditional look of a wingtip golf shoe, fashion trends move toward a rounded, comfortable toe and a softer overall feel. The Nike …

Porter Cup Headlines: Day Four

I’ve no doubt that my colleagues at The Buffalo News and The Niagara Gazette will do Richy Werenski’s win the justice it deserves. Werenski plays for a perennial ACC favorite at Georgia Tech. He clearly has game, something that the Niagara Falls Country Club does a fine job in identifying.
