I’m a bit wary when a dude or a lass, having made a killing in apparel in another lifetime and style-era, makes an eerie comeback. Touting a new, fashion-younger direction, the results can be forgettable, even disastrous. Apparently, John Ashworth didn’t tack this course with Linksoul.

Ashworth headed an eponymous brand for years before heading in the Linksoul direction. The company’s tagline, Make par, not war, might be interpreted (or simply read.) It reminds me of the awakening that many intense-o types have at a juncture in their lives. They stop living for the conquest, the goal and instead turn to living for the moment. This new-found interest, painted as disinterest, is attractive to the young and envied by the middle. The old are too cool to care.

Check out the lookbook on the Linksoul website. It tells more of the story, in a casual-retro-cali way, than I ever could with words. I’m not assured that Linksoul wants my words! I have a shirt by them~I think that the dude in the lookbook has it on in one still. The shirt simply lays across my torso. It gets compliments from chicks and dudes, which is not a typical golf-apparel reaction. If I were a casual clubber, I could wear it to a casual club.

The press release reads as follows:

(OCEANSIDE, CA) – LINKSOUL by John Ashworth & Co. announces that its Summer 2012 golf-lifestyle apparel collection is now available exclusively at discerning specialty golf merchandisers throughout North America.

Combining subtle shades of blue and white, the latest offerings include a carefully curated selection of polos, shorts, lightweight jackets and sweaters. Built from natural performance materials such as innosoft cotton, micro merino wool and linen, these easy-to-care-for garments cater specifically to the needs of style-conscious men seeking a comfortable alternative to “golf uniform” technical pieces.

“The micro merino crew neck sweater is an essential layering piece that’s with me every time I get on a plane,” says Ashworth. “It’s super simple yet incredibly versatile and perfect for the chilly ‘June Gloom’ mornings we get in So. Cal when you need a light layer.”

Other standout items include five-pocket cotton/linen chambray shorts (LS609), cotton poplin printed stripe shorts (LS 606) and the signature one-pocket LINKSOUL polo (LS101). Easy to wear and featuring a luxury hand feel, each of these relaxed-yet-sophisticated garments resists wrinkling, shrinking, fading and pilling.
