Buffalo’s Chris Covelli, enjoying tournament golf after a self-imposed hiatus from the competitive game, stands in 6th place after round one of the inaugural South Beach International Amateur in Miami.
Covelli signed for a one-under round of 69, four strokes off the lead of Parisian Olivier Rozner. In second place is current US Amateur champion Kelly Kraft, tied with Patrick Christovich of New Orleans.
The remaining members of the western New York contingent were not as successful as Covelli. Despite the extended Fall, the area arsenal turned in scores of 75 (Jonathan Clark-Orchard Park), 78 (Billy Hanes-Elma), 83 (Jacob Kreuz-Amherst) and 93 (Bill Gaffney-Williamsville.)
