My colleague, Mr. Mouth That Roars, acknowledges our imminent departure for points east of western New York. Assuming that the weather holds and that our wallets and bodies remain intact, the Mouth, the Scrambler and I shall play eight rounds over the next six days. Two of the rounds will take place at modern golf courses with a traditional flavor (Tall Grass by Gil Hanse and Links at Union Vale by Stephen Kay) while the remaining six where produced by architects from a different era. We’ll see four A. W. Tillinghast courses (Bethpage Black, Blue and Red, and Paramount), a Devereux Emmet layout (Bethpage Green) and an Alfred Tull production (Bethpage Yellow.) We’ll play a two-time US Open layout and tour a rennovated country club from a separate epoch. After each round, we’ll report back with our views, opinions and photographs, so stay tuned for the next six days.
