Remember the Michelle Wie experiments? Never really panned out any gold, did they? Kenny G. and Jerry Rice? Iron Pyrite! How many other freaks had a crack at one of the major golf tours and failed to make any waves or raise any gold dust? Now we have one, in the guise of long drive king Jaime Sadlowski.

Sadlowski is a bomber. Search him on Bing and you’ll find all you need to know (videos, articles, still photos) about his freakish length and talent. Well, I’m here to write that dude can golf his ball. Playing in one of the Nationwide Tour’s oldest events (the Boise Open), Sadlo went 73-66 (+2 -5) and will play this weekend.

Typical start for a nervous dude. Four bogies and two birdies on Thursday. Friday was a different story. Two eagles and five birdies were enough to offset one fewer bogey than the day before. I don’t even want to know (but I will rubberneck) how close he was to the green on the par-four 14th (he made 2) in one, nor the par-five 2nd (he made 3) in two.

What I do want to know is how well he will fare this weekend. The kid has talent beyond long driving and this is a great opportunity to see how much a Wilt Chamberlain-esque talent can influence the game.
