It was ugly. It was sandy; wet at times too. In all, it was about 10 shots more than anyone could have hoped it would be, but Tiger Woods opening round 77 isn’t as earth-shattering as everyone’s making it.
Understand something, the guys makes four less swings and he’s “just a bit off” or “still trying to figure it out.” The difference between good and great on the PGA Tour and at the world’s most challenging golf courses is so small. But, that also means it can be made up in time.
Woods may or may not ever win again. The 77 isn’t symbolism for either though. All the hyperbole can cease.
Do you believe Ryo Ishikawa will win a major someday? He shot an 85 yesterday.
Do you think Dustin Johnson has a few majors in him? He carded a score just two better than Woods.
Tiger’s coming back from an injury, a sex scandal and a divorce – I imagine 77s and bad days on the golf course are some of his smaller problems.
I believe Tiger will win again. Maybe you do or don’t. Either way, let’s not act like one bad opening round marks a player’s demise.
