Liam Friedman, a product of Lackawanna (corrected by editor), turned away venerable, upset-minded Jack Widger of Elkdale GC to win the 2012 WNY PGA match play championship by a score of 3 & 2. Friedman knocked off highly-seeded Dwayne Randall and Rob Horak among others, to reach the final against Widger. Friedman emerged from a #17 seeding to reach the final. Widger, a #14 seed, defeated the area’s most successful newcomer (Alex Weir of Erie, PA) to reach the final against Friedman. For complete results, click here.
Liam Friedman is from Lackawanna, not South Buffalo. While he might be a South Park GC product don’t confuse the two unless you want a war on your hands 🙂 Liam will be on the Golf Channel’s Big Break premiering on October 2 and as his preview notes, he is from Lacakwanna.
