I mean this in the nicest way – but Sergio Garcia belongs on a list of the best players never to win a major.
I reiterate that I mean it in a nice way because usually one’s inclusion on the list is a painful reminder of their failure to capture one of golf’s greatest championships. But, after reading Gary Van Sickle’s list of the 10 best players never to win a major, I think Garcia should be insulted with his exclusion.
Forgive me, but Van Sickle has lost his mind if he thinks Bubba Watson, K.J. Choi and Nick Watney are guys with better careers than Garcia. You can’t even make the argument that Garcia hasn’t been around lately and therefore he doesn’t deserve to be considered – the guy’s finished in the top 10 in each of the past two majors.
As I clicked on the headline I figured the top two guys would be Garcia and Westwood but I wasn’t sure in which order. Westwood is there at #1, but Garcia is nowhere to be found.
Van Sickle’s list identifies 10 of the top 11 who’ve never won a major, because everyone who follows golf knows Sergio is amongst this group. He’ll have to win his way off of future lists.
Then again, maybe Van Sickle is trying to tell us something. Maybe he believes this is the week Garcia gets to leave these lists forever…
