Billy Hanes has read a great deal about little brother David lately. High school graduate, BDGA Junior Stroke Play champ, International Junior Master victor, Porter Cup qualifier…the little guy even had an ace last week at Niagara Falls country club in the third round. Enough was enough and Hanes the Elder seized the Men’s Individual first round lead (or at least a tie for it) with a contemporary of his sibling, Ben Reichert. Both shot 71 at Transit Valley country club, but have their work cut out for them.

Right behind the two leaders are the ageless Tony Hejna at 72, and the even-more ageless Dan Irwin and Ken Riter among a group at 73. Oh, one of those guys at 73 is David Hanes. The tournament continues play today and tomorrow, with a 36-hole cut scheduled at the end of play today.
