96 golfers will tee off on Monday, June 24th, in search of a spot in the 2013 Men’s Porter Cup tournament. 8 spots have been reserved for this open qualifier and ties for the final spot will be resolved by a playoff. Among those attempting to qualify are former Porter Cup contestants James Blackwell, Chris Covelli, John Edwards, Brian Jurkiewicz, Jamie Miller and Brandon Ng. (Qualifier results at bottom.)
The qualifier will be contested over the Niagara Falls country club course at 18 holes of stroke play. Other noteworthy entrants include 2013 NYS high school state federation champion Derek Bard, current college golfers Josh Stauffer (St. Bonaventure), Daniel Yustin (Hartford), Colin Burns (Ohio Northern), Bryce Edmister (Binghamton) and Jacob Felicetti (Niagara). Players tee off beginning at 7:30 and ending at 1:00.
2013 invited contestants include defending champion Richy Werenski, 2011 champion Patrick Rodgers, 2013 US Open low amateur Michael Kim, Gavin Hall (also a participant in the 2013 US Open) and local favorites Michael Carrig (Buffalo) and Raman Luthra (East Amherst.)
