The only real professional golf tournament on my radar in the next month is the highly-anticipated Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. It’s the stepsister to the Ryder Cup, but it packs as much talent and potential excitement as any other team event in the sport. The U.S. roster features Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods and a number of other big names. They’ll battle Jason Day, Adam Scott, Y.E. Yang, Charl Schwartzel and a loaded international team.
On paper, it’s hard not to think the International team might have the edge. Guys like Day, Scott and Schwartzel left their marks on 2011. Not so much for the domestic boys. Tiger will drive story lines as there are many people who don’t even think he should be teeing it up. Others will simply hope he gets paired against Scott and his former caddie.
If you’re looking forward to this event, I’d start storing up on sleep now. That Australia time change will mean the U.S. will need to watch the event in the odd hours of the day.
