On a day more suited to the Hundred Acre Wood than a central New York golf course, the Section VI nine turned in a second consecutive 556 to move past Section I, into the top half of the bracket. Only Sections VIII, XI, V and III stood between the western New Yorkers and the team title.
On the individual side, first-round leader Alex Ferrante fell from 71 to 81 and out of the top six. Moving on represent the NYSPHSAA at the State Federation Championship are Davis Jensen (II and the tournament medalist), Alec Bard (III), Matt van Niekerk (V), Kyle Burke (XI), Sean Byrne (VIII) and Section VI’s Nolan Ditcher, from Randolph high school. Seniors David Berkun (Williamsville North) and Dan Weimer (Silver Creek) made runs at the top six, but fell a few shots short of qualifying on.
