This column is in many ways, a day late. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and thus the day we are supposed to proclaim all that we are thankful for in our lives.
In that way, I am a rebel. I am choosing to talk about all the golf things I’m thankful for – a day late. Forgive me, I just think being thankful isn’t a one-day-a-year effort. Here is a list of some of the things I’m currently thankful for in golf …
~ I’m thankful for Sergio Garcia’s reemergence. If you tell me you think he could be the best player in the sport over the next decade, I won’t argue with you.
~ I’m thankful for the countless guys and gals who are living in cars and chasing dreams of playing on tours. We don’t know their names, but if they stay strong.. maybe one day we will.
~ I’m thankful for cavernous bunkers. They are beautiful. I am never thankful to be in them.
~ I am thankful for the U.S. Open – golf’s greatest tournament. Feel free to argue the point.
~ I’m thankful for Phil Mickelson’s swashbuckling style — look at the memories he’s given us?
~ I’m thankful for the golf trips Mo’ Golf keeps arranging for the less than superb clad or writers and golfers he calls a staff. It’s fun to be on the team.
~ I’m thankful for Elkdale Country Club – my first and always favorite course.
~ I’m thankful for Par 3’s that are about 145 in length. That seems to be my favorite shot to hit.
~ I’m thankful for David Duval – keep fighting back. Same to you Tiger.
~ I’m thankful for holes in ones, crazy bunker shots, bounces off trees and putts that spin the cup and drop. Essentially, I’m thankful for the shots that keep us coming back.
