Every month or so, Tom supplies BuffaloGolfer.Com with three bonus tips. This week, he examines weight distribution, ubersense and procrastination. Intrigued? Read on.

Weight Distribution – Hooking & Slicing

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties …. well, you know what to do!

If you hook the ball, try hitting balls with a 2×4 under your heels. You can’t attack the ball too much from inside to outside with your heels in the air.

If you slice the ball, try hitting balls with a 2×4 under your toes. You can’t attack the ball too much from outside to inside with your toes in the air.

After trying the appropriate drill, try to replicate the correct adjusted weight distribution feel without anything under your toes or heels, and hit a few more balls. You should (literally) be on the path to improvement through better weight distribution, better swing path, and better balance.

Love your practice, enjoy your golf,

Tom

Ubersense

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties …. well, you know what to do !

I have a few students that have moved out of the area that still keep in touch, and one of them living down South – Nolan G. – sent me an email regarding a swing analysis software app.

He asked me if I had a swing analysis app that I was using, and he mentioned that he was using one called Ubersense.

I checked it out at http://www.ubersense.com/  and downloaded the app to my iPad4. I have the V1 Swing Analysis app, but what I like about the Ubersense app is that you can shoot video from within the app. You don’t have to shoot video then upload it to the program like you do with V1. As an instructor, I’m for anything that does a good job and saves time, and Ubersense seems to do that.

I also like that it’s free.

So if you have an iPad2 or newer, an iPhone4 or higher, or an iTouch4 or higher give this a try.

And thanks for the information Nolan!

Love your practice, enjoy your golf,

Tom

Procrastination

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties …. well, you know what to do!

“Procrastination is attitude’s natural assassin. There is nothing so fatiguing as an uncompleted task.”William James, one of the founders of modern psychology.

I mentioned in a previous newsletter that I recently had an issue with a back problem that turned out to be a rib problem. During the course of the diagnosis, I went to a couple of different physicians, therapists, and rehab specialists, each of which gave me corrective exercises for the problem.

Even though I am the type of person that relishes a challenge like getting better and stronger, the sheer number of exercises provided overwhelmed me to the point that I stalled out.

Then I remembered that the only way you can eat an elephant is one bite at a time, so I cut down the number of exercises and got back on track.

If you keep it simple, the odds are good that it will get done.

So …. here’s the worlds simplest golf improvement plan for procrastinators:

  1. write down one golf drill or one golf fitness exercise on a piece of paper before you go to bed at night
  2. schedule a time to do it the next day, and write that on the paper too
  3. stick the paper in the front pants pocket of the pants you will put on the next day
  4. then just do it
