Western New York had two podium showings from its girls golf squad at the 2017 NYSPHSAA championships, held June 3-4 at Bethpage State Park’s Yellow course. The one-girl show from Medina, Melanie Green, followed up her Section 6 title with a 3rd place finish on Long Island. Green had rounds of 70 and 75 to finish at one over par for 36 holes. The individual title was claimed by Lauren Peters of Section 1 (Westchester County), with the runner-up spot going to defending champion Lindsay May of Section III (central New York.) Peters followed up her opening 68 with a 72. Her total of 140 was good for a 2-stroke margin of victory over May, who twinned 71s to finish 2-under par for the tournament.

In the team portion of the event, Section 6 rode the performances of Green, Alexis Kim (75-81) and Elena Lopez (83-74) to a 3rd-place finish. The team stood in third position after day one, behind only Section 1 and Section 8 (Nassau County). Despite tossing the 2nd-low score on day two, the western New York contingent was unable to overtake the Long Islanders for 2nd spot. Complete totals for all nine Section 6 participants are in the image below.
