This past weekend (8/18&19), I had the wonderful privilege of competing in my third member/guest at my local club.  My guest, as it has been for the three years that I have played in it, was my son.  My son is a once or twice a year golfer, so we always enter with limited expectations.  But, do you know what, we always meet or exceed out expectations.  You see, our ‘goal’ each and every year is to have a good time, enjoy each other’s company and do something where the lines between father and son are completely blurred.  Once a year, we are teammates.  We discuss strategy, we offer each other advice, we celebrate the great shots and we commiserate with each other over the bad ones.  I play a fair amount of golf and I play a lot of tournaments both in our club and in some local events, but, none of them even comes close to the pleasure I get out of this two day event.  Each year I look forward to this event even more and more and I eagerly anticipate its arrival.  So, if you are reading this article and you ever have the chance to play in a member/guest, I highly recommend that you do so.  But, always keep your eye on the prize – having fun.
