14, 15, 16… what’s the worst you’ve ever played on a golf hole?

By now you’ve seen the video or heard the news about Kevin Na’s epic 16 on a Par 4 at this week’s Valero Texas Open. Na went into the trees and never really come out.

It’s laughable, but it can happen to any of us at any time. One of the biggest flaws in my game and many other amateurs is that we have “blow up” holes. In my first round of the year I had two holes where I just lost my mind and my swing. It got ugly. Fortunately, I wasn’t mic’d up and playing in a professional tournament.

There are voices in the golf media who talk about how humbled Kevin Na must feel. Maybe, but I don’t think so. It’s a bad hole. It happens. He’s already moved on. Kevin Na laughed about the whole thing the very next day via his Twitter?

What’s remarkable is that Na managed to shoot 12-over on that hole and still card an 80. We probably should feel worse for his playing partners than Na. Rarely are average players like the rest of us so lucky. Holes like this prove much more costly.

Here’s a couple questions… 1) What’s the worst hole you’ve ever had? Do you just pick up after 10? Would you be able to laugh off a 16? Post your thoughts below.
