In a surprising move just days before the golfing world shifts its focus to Augusta National Golf Club and The Masters, tournament officials announced the green jacket will we turning a shade of blue this year. Those familiar with The Masters know the green jacket is the prize the winner receives and it’s considered quite prestigious to have one in your closet.

Tournament officials cited their reason for the change as a simple desire to change things up. They revealed that players have been pushing for a change for years.

“It’s been going on for decades really. Arnie Palmer used to always want us to turn it yellow. We thought about turning it to a shade that went better with red all those years Tiger was winning the thing. Just this past year we had Phil Mickelson petition to turn it pink for breast cancer awareness and you should have seen those designs Ian Poulter gave us…” one anonymous source revealed.

One must wonder if The Masters held off announcing the change until just before the event so as to not allow players time to change their travel plans. It’s possible players could be slightly less interested in playing knowing they wont have a chance to win a green jacket this year.

“Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple…it’s still The Masters and I want to win it,” said one player. Another commented, “I just don’t understand why they’d turn it blue.”

Tiger Woods was unavailable for comment but many believe he’s upset that he wasn’t clued in on the change when developing The Masters as the key focus point of his new EA Sports video game. Knowing the tournament planned to change the color from green to blue would have been a keen change to feature in the game.

In final thoughts…. Happy April Fool’s Day Golf Fans!
