For most people who aren’t able to watch golf during the week due to work, it probably feels like the Barclays is over before it even begins.

It’s 4 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon and I can already read the recount of how Dustin Johnson outdueled Matt Kuchar to win the Barclays earlier today. It feels like a Sunday night. It wouldn’t shock me if I wake up and head to work in the morning out of habit.

Apparently, the playoff event also transformed itself into a pitch and putt of sorts. Just read some of the following sentence…

~ Johnson shot a 29 on the front of rain-softened Plainfield Country Club for the second straight day

~ Watney enjoys a 64

~ Snedeker’s near 59

Johnson won the event at 19-under in just three days. That means he was picking up a stroke on par every three holes…which is remarkable. Kuchar was just two behind him and a slew of others threw ridiculously low numbers on the board over the past few days.

Here’s an interesting stat that might help you get a sense of how well Johnson has played in his young career: this win makes him the first player since Tiger Woods to go straight from college and win in each of his first four years on the PGA Tour.

The reason the tournament is already in the books is because Hurricane Irene is coming. The safety of fans, players and everyone else involved in the event should be the priority. I understand shortening the event to 54 holes. I grasp why there’s no golf to watch this weekend.

I’m not complaining, I just like knowing there’s golf to watch each week. I was told this was the playoffs…I guess the fans get first round byes.
