Porter Cup Media Day Came And Went
A lot of information was shared, and the golf course was opened for a test drive.We learned a few things on Tuesday the 16th, at the Niagara Falls Country Club. A week from today, 90 of the world’s best amateur golfers will begin competition in the 60th playing of the Porter Cup. What will they face? Who are they? Here is what we know.
~The #7 golfer in the world, Chun An Yu, and the #22 ranked golfer, John Pak, will compete in this year’s tournament;
~Four of the continent’s top mid-amateur golfers will compete. They are: Kevin O’Connell, the 2018 USGA Mid-Amateur champion; Matt Parziale, the 2017 Mid-Am champion; Garrett Rank; and Justin Tereshko;
~The golf course is in the midst of a greens revitalization and renewal. Many of the putting surfaces have been recontoured to add additional undulation, while still offering new hole locations. All 18 will eventually undergo this treatment;
~On the junior side, one of the top commits from the class of 2020, Canon Claycomb of Orlando, will compete. Claycomb will attend the University of Alabama. He has represented the USA on both the Junior Ryder Cup and Junior Presidents Cup teams;
~The golf course will likely offer a lot of putts at birdie, as long as golfers can keep their tee balls in the fairway. Rain is forecast for 3 or 4 of the next 10 days. The remaining days will be overcast, ensuring that the course does not “drought-out.” Unless the tees are waaaaay back on 5, 8, 9, 13 and 17, expect less-than-drive on many of the par-four holes;
~All of the golfers will have four attempts at replicating Tiger Woods’ 12th-hole ace in 1994. If they come as close as this guy, they’ll make birdie more often than not.

Here’s your pre-season primer on sand shots
This post started as a review of Maginnes On Tap, a new PGATour radio show with John Maginnes. While searching for the show's web page, I found this video of Ian Poulter holing out a bunker shot for eagle on Friday at Doral. Everything about it is letter-perfect for a...
What To Do When The Weather Is Angry
The world's best golfers competing at the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral this week had to endure a couple hours of delay due to rain and wind. According to TwitVids -- it was not nice. Living and golfing in Buffalo, we often endure weather-related delays. What's...
What’s The Deal With The Weathermen?
Are you telling me that the PGA Tour and the entire cast of south Florida weathermen couldn't predict the arrival of inclement weather around noon, e.s.t.? The WGC presumes it has the luxury of teeing its boys off at 11:20, instead of 7:30. Brilliant. Two hours later,...
Press Release: Shock Lock Sports Strives To Dampen Impact Vibration
Impact vibration is a necessary evil that produces critical sensory feedback for golfers while playing the game. However, not all forms of vibration are helpful in determining when you did something right or wrong on the links, and some kinds are downright painful....
The Masters
We're excited for the WGC Cadillac Championships - but The Masters are only four weeks away. Enjoy.
There Is No Tiger Woods In The USA
Living in western New York in the 1990s, Bills fans grew accustomed to championships. The team won 4 consecutive AFC titles before bowing out in 1994. Over the past 15 years, we golf fans grew accustomed to similar success stories, courtesy of the Cypres prodigy,...
Does The Shark Not Like Tiger?
I found it odd that Greg Norman decided to be so bold in his predictions that Tiger Woods won't break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 majors. I credit the guy for speaking his mind if that's how he truly feels, which I'm assuming it is. But it would have been so easy to...
Talking Golf and Travel with Erin Walker.
(Editors Note -- The below interview with Erin Walker took place a month ago and was published on our old site. We wanted to post it on the new site. We've gone back and forth with Walker via Twitter since then. At one point, she mentioned how she and Jimmy love...

Momma Said There’d Be Days Like That….
As a Fantasy Golf rookie, I'm quickly learning how wonderful and frustrating the hobby can be. I've cared more about whether Spencer Levin makes birdies this season than ever before in my life . All in all, I'm performing quite well through eight weeks. Then came...
Buffalo Tournament Club Review
It is often said that it takes quite a few years for a golf course to ‘settle in’ to its full potential. The Buffalo Tournament Club (BTC) in Lancaster, NY certainly fits that description. If you played BTC in its early years, it was easy to be less than impressed by...
Bluecoats @ USGA Point In Mike Davis’ Direction
If you haven't read, the United States Golf Association made a logical move and elevated Mike Davis to replace David Fay as Executive Director of that august organization. The USGA runs a number of professional and amateur national championships, including the...
