Porter Cup 2019: Day 3 Debriefing
Chun An Yu gives a bit of hope to the fieldChun An Yu continued to show himself as the class of the 2019 Porter Cup field. He posted his third round in the 60s, and separated himself from the field. After 38 consecutive holes without a bogey, the Taiwanese golfer from Arizona State made four at the lat, dropping back to -12 and giving the field the slightest bit of hope. On his heels is Aiden Didone from Melbourne, Australia. Didone posted the day’s low round, 65, to jump to -9 and a final-round tee time with Chun and Tyler Strafaci, of Florida and Georgia Tech.
The leader began the day in a tie with Reid Davenport of Texas and Vanderbilt. Davenport had posted 3 bogies through his first 36 holes, but stumbled to 4 on Friday. He countered with 3 birdies, to remain within shouting distance of the leader. Davenport will anchor the penultimate threesome, with Davis Lamb and Matt Parziale. Lamb posted his 3rd 68 of the tournament, and remains our selection for most likely to go low. If he does so on Saturday, he will wear the winner’s green jacket at dusk. Parziale turned in a clean card of 5 birdies and 0 bogies, matching Didone for day’s low round. The Massachusetts fireman is no stranger to match-play triumph on the national level, but a stroke-play title would elevate him to serious consideration for this year’s USA Walker Cup side.
Realistically, Chun An Yu should turn in another score in the 60s. If he posts one-under on Saturday, he will reach -13 for the week. That would require a mid- to low-60s number from any of his chasers. By our calculations, seven golfers (Didone, Strafaci, Davenport, Lamb, Parziale, James Piot and John Pak) have a chance at catching the leader. For the -4 and -3 golfers, a course record-matching round of 60 would be needed to enter the fray.
While we prepare for round four (Tee Sheet Here)and contemplate the myriad possible outcomes, have a look at a series of videos posted by @OPGolfCoach on Twitter. Stationed at the desirable confluence of holes 15, 16 and 17, Nate Leary whipped out his phone and rolled tape.

Two Quick Golf Thoughts For A Tuesday
1) Tiger Woods took questions about the AT&T National event scheduled for later this summer and revealed that he's now on crutches and wearing a protective boot in hopes of being healthy for the 2011 U.S. Open. I can't stand the thought of Woods' injured, mamed...

The WNYPGA held the 2011 Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel Pro Am today Monday, May 23rd at Elkdale CC in Salamanca, NY. The event was a 10 AM shotgun and play was suspended for about an hour from noon to one for heavy rain and puddling on the greens. The rain did...
Bob Dicesare Plays 100 Holes of Golf in A Day
Both I and Mo' Golf have played 100 holes of golf in a day -- so Bob Dicesare's recent column about that exact feat resonated with the writers at BuffaloGolfer.com. Dicesare talks openly about the pain, length and aches that come with hitting that many balls and...
Update – Lee Westwood still #1
Yesterday I put together a brief post on how Luke Donald winning the Volvo Match Play Championships and earning the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) could and should happen. Nothing against Lee Westwood, but it just doesn't feel right with him...

Final Eight Set @ Volvo World Match Play Championship
Quiros, Kaymer, Schwartzel, Donald, Colsaerts, McDowell, Molinari, Poulter...as close to a murderer's row, to cite the old NY Yankee nickname, as we have in golf today. Five of the eight were on the 2010 edition of the Euro Ryder Cup team, all are European (more on...
Go Golf Buffalo, Go Golf
This is today's forecast Buffalo -- get out there and play golf. Go to the range, play 9 with friends, take your dad out for 18, introduce your son to the game -- just do something. We don't get a ton of 72 and sunny days lately. Go golf Buffalo, go golf.
Somebody show Westwood the love
People need to start sending Lee Westwood some love in less than 140 characters. The world’s #1 ranked player is growing frustrated with the constant negativity and criticism he’s receiving on his Twitter account and may soon stop tweeting entirely. “It’s just...
Fila Korea Ltd. & Mirae Asset Private Equity…Who?
Did anyone see that coming? Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist and FootJoy, will be purchased by ... not Nike ... not Callaway ... not any golfing company that you might have anticipated. Fila Korea wasn't even mentioned along the rumor trail of the past half...
Return To Turning Stone: Memorial Weekend 2011
I have to admit, I love the drive along I-90 in New York state. You see at least a dozen golf courses along the way, including the skeletal remains of one that was laid out, had a soft opening, but never opened to the public. That one, outside Rochester, would be The...
